Giraffe Manor is one of the most photogenic accomodations on the planet, sought after with a waitlist on rooms, booked up to 2 years in advance, costing upwards of $2300USD per night.
For a property with that much commitment, you want to make sure you're getting exactly what you want, the best room in the house.
The Safari Collection's Giraffe Manor is made up of 2 accomodations; the original Manor house and the Garden Manor - both highly sought after, but not quite as popular as the original 6 rooms in the Manor.
Karen Blixen Suite - best room for families
The Karen Blitzen Suite is the only room in Giraffe Manor sleeping up to 4 people. With an impressive 2 bedroom layout and a balcony facing the main plains, this is hands down the best room for families. As the only room large enough for a family of 4, in the main manor, and with direct giraffe feeding access from the main balcony, the Karen Blitzen Suite is an absolutely magical room to land for your stay at Giraffe Manor.
Betty Superior Room - best room for couples
If you're a solo or couples travellers, Betty is by far the best room in the house. Betty is the corner room facing both the main plains and the side plains, with views up the main courtyard. Betty is a magical spot for giraffes in the morning as the breakfast room is directly below, making the Betty balcony a main thoroughfare for these gentle giants. Betty also boasts an impressive and original art deco bathroom, finished with oversized bathtub.
Daisy Superior Room
Daisy is located directly behind Betty and has a somewhat adjoining, albeit obstructed balcony. With balcony access to giraffes, Daisy's room is a quaint spot to sit and enjoy the Kenyan breeze. Daisy can be set up in a twin or king configuration, with an adjoining bathroom and spacious shower.
Jock Superior Room
At the front corner of the house, you've got unparalleled views of the plains in which the giraffes roam, as well as a side view of the Manor's other facilities including The Retreat and The Giraffe Sanctuary. Jock's room also has a spacious bathroom, with both a bath tub a seperate shower.
Marlon Superior Room
Now, what once was two seperate rooms, Marlon is one of the larger rooms in the main manor, with the ability to configure as either a twin or double room. Marlon's room includes a balcony that faces east, towards The Retreat. Because the room is so large, you can enjoy a dedicated seating area also.
Lynn Superior Room
On the ground floor of the manor is Lynn's room, with a terrace facing out to the giraffe plains. This room boasts a large bathroom with both a shower and a bath, as well as his and hers sinks. Would you believe the location of Lynn's room was once the original location of the manor kitchen!
Included with all rooms
No matter which room you stay in, the inclusions and experiences at Giraffe Manor are unmatched to those of any other historic hotel across the world.
Full board - all stays at Giraffe Manor include all meals; breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. And there is nothing too big or too small of an ask for the chefs. They're able to cater to a variety of dietary needs as well as make customisations as you like. Orchid House is available for guests to enjoy a special private dining experience - highly recommend!
Personal concierge - on the topic of food, on arrival you'll meet your personal concierge. This is the person who will serve your meals, assist with your luggage, make safari arragements, organise town cars and so much more. They are invaluable at Giraffe Manor. Special mention to our incredible concierge: Jackson & William - it was hard to say good bye to them at the end of our special stay.
Transport - your stay at Giraffe Manor can also include trips around Nairobi. You can ask your concierge to arrange a car to take you into town, or to local spots like the Karen Blixen museum, of which the cost of transport is factored into your stay.
Airport transfers - Upon landing in Nairobi, your driver will meet you at the airport and help with your luggage. They'll also drop you back and make sure you're heading off on a safe onward journey.
Giraffe Centre - Down a hidden little track, your personal concierge can walk you to the Giraffe Centre, sharing the giraffes with the manor. This is where they hang out most of the day as visitors spend the day feeding them. Admission is included as a part of your stay. You can visit and learn about the giraffes, the species and what conservation efforts are in place.
After such a memorable stay in February 2024, given the opportunity, we'll be heading back again for sure! My best recommendation; don't spend just one night here. We were lucky enough to have 3 blissful nights at this beautiful sancturay. Enough time to take all the pictures in the world, but also to fully immerse and enjoy the slow life, sitting and enjoying afternoon tea with giraffes.
At first, I thought Giraffe Manor would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, something to do just once. It's certainly a stay I'll add next time in Africa. The Safari Collection also have other properties that you can add together to create the ultimate safari experience!
Maestro concierge top tips:
Spend a few nights at Giraffe Manor, either at the start or end of a safari with The Safari Collection. One night is not enough to take many thousands of pictures and fully immerse in the experience.
When staying in Betty Room, did you know you can arrange for a private dinner by candlelight on the balcony? At no extra cost. Ask your concierge on arrival and this can be arranged for you.
Speaking of private dinners, you can also arrange private dining in The Orchid House, at no extra cost. A beautiful atmosphere by to enjoy a 3-course meal by candlelight.
